Nicholas has exceeded (and that is a serious understatement) my expectations as far as adjusting to life as a big brother! I am happy to report that he has yet to lift an "ungentle" finger or speak an "unloving" word towards Karly. He really enjoys looking at her and he loves to help me in any way he can.
Before Karly was born I bought Nicholas a baby doll so that he would have his baby when I was feeding. Unfortunately, it was right before she was born and I forgot to bring him/her out for an introduction. Anyway, here Nicholas is holding his baby in the baby carrier. Don't mind the fuzziness of the pic...that's just a Nicholas smudge. Oh, and he wasn't upset...I just caught him at an inopportune moment.
I really try to let Nicholas have a say in what he wears. I've heard it is one way to build self-esteem and involve them in the decision making process. Sometimes, I give him a choice between two outfits and other times I just let him pick. Well this day he decided that he wanted to wear two different shoes. He wanted nothing to do with a correct pair. So...what would it hurt. He spent the day in his choice of shoes. Oh, and yes, we did leave the house!!
We bought a bug cage at a recent trip to the Dollar Tree. Nicholas and I had a great time looking for bugs to put in his pinecone-and-mulch-filled cage. Unfortunately, we only found crickets...you'd have to pay me a lot of money to get close to a cricket (unless I'm flushing it)! We each had a stick to turn up dirt. Here is Nicholas searching for bugs.

How precious is he! That is so great that he practiced with a baby doll. I did that with Evan. Evan was also a pretty good big bro. Things didn't get hairy for me until daddy went back to work. But nevertheless, he's adjusting still!
I love that he is wearing diff shoes. So funny, and so independent. What a fun time bug catching. How are you holding up? We need to hear about you too.
This blogspot is the greatest. Even though I don't get to see you and your family often it makes me feel that I share watching "my family" grow and change. It is the greatest. I know its work, but it is so appreciated. Take care of yourself too. I know your hands are full but your doing a great job.
